BGC Aspects of this program are specifically planned to provide a positive, encouraging atmosphere. We work to improve qualities of sportsmanship as well as self-confidence and self-esteem.

BGC This hour of the program is held in the pool where we provide instructional swim. Staff work on teaching correct swimming skills and building endurance.

If you register for any of the Special Olympics Programs, a Special Olympics Parental and Medical Form will be sent to you if your forms need to be updated. These forms MUST be completed to allow for participation at Special Olympics events. Competitions take place on Saturdays in both Team and Skills Sports.

This program is specifically designed for those of you who are interested in learning a new sport and for those that wish to continue building your skills in floor hockey, basketball, volleyball and track and field.

This program not only focuses on skill building in sports, but also promotes physical fitness, good sportsmanship and positive community interactions.

North East will host two in-house Special Olympics events in volleyball and floor hockey where all participants will compete.

Teamwork, good sportsmanship, success, and fun keep our program exciting and enjoyable for our athletes.

NCCC Friday night with friends cooking and watching a movie! Come out and spend time with new and old friends while you prepare a meal from soup to nuts. Learn some new cooking skills.

We will be working on preparing a simple meal, including a main course, salad, sides and of course, a dessert. Let’s not forget about setting the table before we sit down to enjoy our meal. After we clean up, we will use our play money to pay for the movie and buy a snack. Participants will help plan the next healthy meal and prepare a shopping list.

AL The Nite club is an evening of music, dancing, spending time with friends and just having fun. Music is provided by a professional DJ.

Every Saturday, participants will be led in a gym activity, get their heartbeats up with dance/movement activities, engage in sensory play, enjoy music with our music therapist and play adaptive games! What a great way to spend a Saturday morning!

All participants are welcome to stay and enjoy a bag lunch with their friends. Registered See the Sights participants will leave for an afternoon group adventure!

We will be taking trips into the community where we will experience some of the local nature centers, scenic trails, bowling and local events in order to foster independence and practive everyday social interaction! Back for another exciting year, this transition program is for teens and young adults that are aging out of our children's programs and getting ready for adult programs. The "Friends" program fosters socialization and community interaction by offering a safe environment of in-house programming and community outings. The "Friends" will participate in Special Olympics competitions, go to the Palisades Mall, Sportime USA and the Liberty Science Center. We will have a day at Blue Mountain, enjoy a West Point Football Game and a cruise up the Hudson River and more. We will learn a little cooking and other life skills along the way. This will definitely be a fun program to join!

 You will be notified by email each week.
* Participants in this program must be able to succeed with a 4:1 ratio of participants to staff (including visits to public rest rooms)

What better way to spend your Saturday morning than with some friends. It is a great time to see old friends or make new ones. Let’s have some fun while experiencing new things.

We will learn new dance moves in music and work on Special Olympics training in the gym. Don’t forget building with Legos and demonstrating your creativity in art. There will be something for everyone.

* Special Olympics Medical and Consent Forms are Required
* Lunch will be from 11:30–12 for all participants attending the elective. Please pack a bag lunch for your child.
* The elective will follow lunch.

North East will provide  transportation to electives. Space is very limited, so out of district youngsters may be placed on a waiting list.

Fall is a great time to be outside and exploring nature. We will enjoy the great outdoors with trips that will be packed with lots of fun. We love going apple picking, taking a hay ride and attending the annual Mt. Pleasant Fall Festival. Special hikes and many other adventures are planned.

Enrollment is limited! Waiting lists will be put into effect.

North East Adults Weekends Away
Our weekend away program provides a highly structured and closely supervised opportunity for adults with mild to moderate disabilities to gain independence from their families and explore and enjoy new situations. In order to accommodate everyone’s needs, as much as possible, we ask you to look at the three weekends planned and indicate your trip preferences for Fall/Winter/Spring. (See registration form. PLEASE number them in preference order 1st choice, 2nd choice & 3rd choice)
Blue Mountain Camp Site, Peekskill, NY
November 2-4; Ages 16+. Fee: $300.  (ASD/DD/NI)
We will be staying in a beautiful, spacious, conference cabin. The cabin is well heated and also has a beautiful fireplace. Hiking, crafts, games and cooking are only a few of the exciting things we will be doing!
Winter Weekend, Villa Vosilla, Catskills, NY
January 4-6; Ages 16+. Fee: $500, $100 deposit due now.  (ASD/DD/NI)
This weekend will be full of opportunities to celebrate Winter! Great food, lots of snow, and plenty of outdoor and indoor activities! We will enjoy snow tubing, swimming, take in a movie and maybe even go bowling! Take a trip to a winter Wonderland with North East!
Spring Get-a-Way, Cape Cod, Massachusetts

12/1 - 1-3 pm; Mt. Pleasant Community Center, Thornwood - All North East participants and their families are invited.
Bring your family and friends to this special annual event. Enjoy entertainment and an afternoon in the company of your North East Friends! Invitations with detailed information and registration will be sent out in November.
Westchester County Dances For People With Disabilities

Westchester County Center - Ages 16+
North East staff plan and supervise these two events at the County Center. North East participants are encouraged to attend. Refreshments are provided.
